*I partner with Meagan Synnott and Kirsten Wallace, known in the doula world as Swellmama and Om Baby. If a situation were to arise where I couldn’t attend your birth, one of my partners would step-in and cover. If you are interested in getting to know them, I can arrange a prenatal meeting with one of them. Please check-in to one of their numerous yoga classes throughout NW Calgary or their Childbirth Education Classes through Dr.4 Moms.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many births do you take a month?
Since I am a full-time Registered Acupuncturist, I take two personal clients a month. In addition, I am part of an amazing team of doulas known Swellmama and Ombaby.
What is a birth doula?
A birth doula is someone that is trained in childbirth to provide support (informational, emotional, and physical) to a mother and partner just before, through, and after the birth process.Doulas provide a continuity of care, love, support on your baby’s birth day.
What are the benefits of a birth doula?
Research shows that having a doula present tends to shorten labour and lessen complications. In addition, women who have doulas (I also like to think partners too) report having positive experiences about their birth space and experience. Birth matters, and you matter.
Are doulas accepted in hospitals?
Yes! Doulas have access to birth with you in the hospital. Doulas have been cultivating positive births spaces for a number of years and many nurses are happy to see a doulas do their ‘hand-on’ support. A doulas role is to enhance your team of care.
Do I need to have a doula if I have a midwife or if I am having a home birth?
Midwives and doulas have very different roles. A midwife is your primary health care provider and has huge responsibility. Their hands are full with charting, listening to baby and being responsible for the health of both you and your baby.
A doula role is to love, support, and provide consistent care for you and your partner. We are trained to be ‘hand-ons’ and use tools such as breathing techniques, massage, counter pressure, acupressure, and vocal toning in order to cope with ‘extreme senstation’. In addition, we like to get there earlier than a midwife to help with your transition into active labour.
If I have a doula will my husband/partner be able to participate?
Of course-we are not there to replace your partner. In fact, we are there to enhance your bond by making sure both of you are comfortable and supported throughout your baby’s birthday.
