Hi there. My name is Kerri, and I love coffee. I also love bicycles with baskets, although not as much as coffee.
As I think back, my earliest experience as a doula came in my Grade 12 year of high school, where I confidently invited myself along to my friend’s mother’s birth. It is amazing how one decision can open a door to a world of possibility. Little did we all know that my bold intrusion (and her mother’s gracious tolerance of my presence) would introduce me to my greatest passion.
After finishing my Communications degree at the University of Calgary, I traveled to the island of Koh Phangnan in Thailand where I immersed myself in a 500-hour yoga teacher training. It was here that I discovered how breath and movement work to prepare an expecting mother’s body, mind and spirit for baby’s arrival, and first fell in love with the idea of teaching Prenatal Yoga. Upon my return to Canada, I completed a 35-hour Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training through Simperviva Yoga in Vancouver and have been happily teaching ever since. I’ve since continued my training with local mentors and friends like Amy Birdman, Kirsten Wallace and Meagan Synott.
Since my time living in Thailand and discovery of the power of Prenatal Yoga, I have been determined to contribute meaningfully to the incredible and transformative process of pregnancy and childbirth. My journey has evolved over the years and has led me now to the full time practice of being a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Registered Acupuncturist.
I have worked as a doula since 2010, collaborating with a wide array of maternal health providers and participating in the profound experience of birth. I am fascinated by the circle of support that surrounds childbirth and post-partum care and passionate about the unique ways in which I can enhance and widen that circle.
I am so excited to be weaving a multidisciplinary and holistic practice that includes yoga and the art of being a doula with acupuncture and herbal Chinese medicine.
Welcome to Sweet Pea Doula Care.
